The Scheerhorn Capo for Dobro

Back in the 1980's, Tim Scheerhorn was being recognized as one of the premiere builders of resonator guitars. At that time, there were few sources for high quality dobro slides and capos, so he set out to design his own.

Using his background knowledge as a precision machinist to produce the most well designed (a typical Scheerhorn trademark!) capo for dobro that had yet been seen.

The capo shown at left is the one I purchased about twenty five years ago and continue to use to this date.

When Tim received an invitation from Jerry Douglas to manufacture the 'flux' capo, it didn't take long for him to agree.

"Why wouldn't I want to manufacture a capo designed by and endorsed by possibly the finest, most influential dobro player in the world?"

The 'flux' capo is shown at right, and is a much thinner and lighter capo than the Scheerhorn original design. The commercial reasons for Scheerhorn's decision to discontinue his own design are obvious, since he was now the exclusive source for the 'flux', but it deprived the reso players of the world from experiencing the truly superior design he had originated - until the early 2000's, when he decided to re-introduce his own (slightly modified) design.

The new Scheerhorn capo is shown at left.

At just over 4 ounces, it has sufficient mass to absorb most of the spurious resonation of the strings behind the capo, is low enough not to hinder the player's movements near the capo, and is easy and quick to install and remove, whether playing in a jam, on stage, or in the studio.

We have decided not to stock and carry every capo design available, but only the few which meet our criteria for excellence and utility. Our decision not to include other makes or designs should not be seen as a negative or derogatory review on those products, but rather as our unwavering commitment to the quality of the ones we do offer through our store.
