60-minute DVD or VHS, Includes music and tab book
Learn the traditional country blues guitar styles that influenced generations of players. Rory Block, one of the most knowledgeable and talented exponents of the classic blues style, teaches the earthy, hard-driving playing of the Mississippi Delta.
Here is the powerfully rhythmic pounding style of Charlie Patton, the fingerpicking blues of Tommy Johnson, and the sliding, open-tuned sounds of the great Robert Johnson, made clear through the magic of DVD.
In a short time you’ll be playing great fingerstyle blues pieces such as Charlie
Patton’s Moon’s Goin’ Down, Patton’s Blues (based on Charlie Patton's Pea Vine
Blues and Robert Johnson's Milk Cow Blues), Robert Johnson’s Crossroads Blues
and Mattie Delaney’s Travelin’ Blues. As you learn these powerful songs, you’ll
be developing technical skills in the use of regular and open tunings, treble
melodies, bass runs, slides, string bending and a variety of amazing pounding
and strumming blues techniques.
Lesson Two:
Level 4
60-minute DVD or VHS, Includes music + tab book
Rory Block continues her exploration of the earthy, hard-driving blues of the Mississippi Delta as played by Booker White, Robert Johnson, John Hurt, Charlie Spann and other great traditional players.
She teaches a number of powerful blues songs, including Fixin’ To Die, Love My Blues Away, Leavin’ Here, When You’ve Got A Good Friend and My Train is Waiting. As an added treat, Rory strays from the blues to teach her arrangement of the great English ballad The Water Is Wide, one of the most requested songs in her repertoire.
Each piece is carefully broken down to provide an understanding of the styles
and techniques of the blues masters. You’ll be able to see both hands in close-up
as you learn open tunings, treble melodies, bass runs, slides and string bending,
as well as additional variations on the intros, solos, turnarounds and endings.
World renowned for her mastery of country blues, Rory Block
has won the W.C. Handy award for “Traditional Blues Female Artist of the Year”
in 1997 and 1998 and “Acoustic Blues Album of the Year” in 1996 & 1999. Add
to these laurels her latest award, the French “Trophees France Blues 98 -- International

the all-time highest regarded blues artists in the world. She is beloved for the power and honesty of her songwriting and for the unique directness and passion of her performances.
"Rory Block has been an inspiration to me since we started out years

in traditional and modern blues." Bonnie Raitt
