HOMESPUNItalian-born guitarist and composer Peppino has developed several innovative approaches to fingerstyle guitar. In addition to his lush chords and Mediterranean melodic sensibility, he plays bass, chords and melody with just his left hand while using his right to provide percussive accompaniment. You'll learn how he does this, along with the unusual tunings, funky tapping and new fingerpicking ideas he uses to create his rhythms, colors and tones.
Peppino continually stretches the boundaries of acoustic playing, yet his
music is very accessible for learning guitarists. His evocative melodies, rich
chord progressions, percussive rhythms and effects will give you fresh, new ideas
about the guitar, and will put your playing on a whole new level. Peppino's in-depth
explorations of four of his compositions, "Why Not?," "A Glimpse
of Times Past," "Desert Flower" and "Born In The Sea," will
provide you with a myriad of powerful ideas and new material.
Peppino D' Agostino was born in Messina, Sicily and grew
up in Turin, but has been living in San Francisco for the past dozen or so years.
He has been influenced by world music styles and a diversity of jazz, classical,
flamenco and folk artists such as Leo Kottke, Paco de Lucia and Carlos Santana.
Peppino has released acclaimed albums on Acoustic Music Records and Mesa/Bluemoon,
appears on numerous anthologies, and has composed music for feature films. Now
a U.S. resident, his busy touring schedule has taken him from Carnegie Hall to
Wolf Trap, as well as concert halls and festivals throughout Europe and the United
States. Acoustic Guitar Magazine described Peppino as "one of the most capable
composers among fingerstyle guitarists," and Jazziz put him "in the
same league as John Fahey, Leo Kottke, Doc Watson and John Renbourn." (His
playing can be heard on Homespun's live concert video, "Muriel Anderson's
All Star Guitar Night.")
