Taught By Keb' Mo'.
Level 3
75-minute DVD or VHS, Includes tab
When this lesson by the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Kevin Moore (aka Keb'
Mo') was released in 1999, it quickly became one of our all-time best-sellers.
Keb’ is a clear and personable instructor as well as a powerful player with a
deep knowledge of the guitar fingerboard. We’re very excited about re-releasing
this in a DVD version, with all the advantages for learning that this new medium
brings.
Keb’ Mo’s lesson is aimed at players who want to get comfortable with the basics of traditional country blues and then go on to more contemporary blues-based tunes. Working in the key of E, Keb’ shows how turnarounds and harmonized scale passages can be the basis for developing fluid phrases in a Robert Johnson style blues tune. He teaches his original tunes Perpetual Blues Machine and Angelina, both in A and employing a rhythmic alternating bass style. Keb' Mo includes some jazz-oriented chords (F7b5, G13 and E11) that add spice and interest to the songs.
For Henry, Keb' switches to his National steel guitar and discusses the basics of slide technique. This compelling, evocative piece combines many of the elements that make Keb' Mo's music so distinctive -- a solid basis in tradition along with a contemporary sensibility that brings it right up to date.
This DVD, with its enhanced picture and sound quality, and instant access to anything you want to work on, will help you learn many of the elements that make up solid traditional or contemporary blues guitar playing.
Review:
"...a well-rounded lesson that should appeal to a variety of players....
He shows how to take three or four simple chords and absolutely kill with them." -
