HOMESPUNA famed fiddler teaches essential tunes and then adds the ornaments—slides,
grace notes, rolls, etc.—that make them distinctively Irish. Although a basic
knowledge of the violin is necessary, these lessons are taught slowly and carefully,
so that even a near-beginner can play the tunes. Kevin teaches jigs, reels, hornpipes
and shows you how to pick a tune out of a book and make it come to life!
Songs: "Boys
Of Bluehill," "Kitty's Wedding," "The Connaughtman's Rambles," "The
Frost Is All Over," "The Humors Of Glendart," "Castlebar
Tramp," "The Pigeon On The Gate," "Lafferty's Reel," "The
Strayaway Child," "Bonnie Kate," "Jennie's Chickens," "The
Green Groves Of Erin," "The Kid On The Mountain," "The Cliffs
Of Moher," "Calahan's Reel."
Kevin
Burke’s sparkling, lyrical fiddle has earned him a reputation as
one of the finest, most influential players in music today, a leading exponent
of the highly ornamented Sligo style. From the time of his work with the legendary
Bothy Band, he has defined Irish fiddling for a generation. His work with artists
as disparate as Kate Bush, Arlo Guthrie and Christy Moore has given him an audience
that not only spans continents but defies attempts at categorization. Throughout
the eighties he toured and recorded with guitarist Micheal O'Domhnaill and the
influential band Patrick Street, as well as his own critically–acclaimed
group Open House. Kevin is now a highly sought-after session and touring musician,
and is a member of Tim O’Brien’s Crossings ensemble. Many of his
recordings are available on Green Linnet Records.
